CITRINE

(pronounced SI-treen)

Hardness: 7
Colors: A clear, pale yellow or golden yellow.
Sources: Brazil, Spain, Madagascar, & Russia yield the best stones.

Facts: Gem-quality clear citrine is rare.  Most of the citrine on the
market is heat-treated amethyst.  Although citrine has a good luster
and is transparent, its value is quite low compared to amethyst and
other forms of crystal.  It is found in Brazil, North Carolina,
California, Spain, and Russia.

The brownish-yellow quartz with crystals is sometimes referred to as
false topaz.  It got it's name for the French word for lemon, citron
Colors in quartz are usually caused by some sort of impurity.
Sometimes you can look through the glassy surface and see air bubbles
or traces of other minerals trapped within the crystals.

Most citrine is mined in Brazil. Supply of citrine is good from the
Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, particularly from the Serra
mine, which is producing 300 kilos a month of hammered goods. The
Iraâ mine produces an additional 100 kilos a month of hammered goods.

Sometimes you will hear citrine referred to as topaz quartz, which is
incorrect. This name was used in the past in reference to the color,
which is sometimes similar to the color of topaz. Since topaz is a
separate mineral, this type of name can be confusing and should not
be used. However, citrine is considered an alternative to topaz as
the birthstone for November.

Since most citrine on the market started its life as amethyst which
was heated to turn its color to gold, citrine jewelry, as well as
amethyst jewelry, should be kept away from prolonged exposure to
strong light or heat. With this precaution, citrine jewelry will last
for many generations.

Citrine is also the "stone of prosperity," and attracts wealth and
success; brings happiness and generosity.  Citrine invigorates,
increasing motivation and physical energy, activating creativity.
This stone is great for using in education or business.

Citrine dissipates negative energy and promotes inner calm.  It
balances yin and yang, opens navel and solar plexus chakras, and
stimulates the crown chakra.  Cleanses aura and aligns etheric body
with physical.   Citrine also treats digestive problems and reduces
ulcer flair ups, treats thyroid imbalance, and aids circulation of
blood.  Also works on the heart, liver, kidneys, gallbladder, and
intestines.  Citrine is good for tissue regeneration and detoxifying
all the bodies.

This stone can also eliminate self-destructive tendencies and raise
self-esteem. In ancient times, citrine was carried as a protection
against snake venom and evil thoughts.  Use this stone to align with
the Higher Self.  Related to the navel or third chakra, citrine can
be used to strengthen self-esteem and protect your aura.  It also
transforms emotional fears, even inherited ones, by giving clarity of
thought.

It aids in working with difficult karma.  Its vibrations build up
physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual stamina also making it
possible to positively deal with karmic events.  Citrine helps in
opening channels to the intuitive levels of the mind.

The lighter the color of the citrine, the milder the effect.  Use it
in combination with aquamarine, blue topaz, or peridot to make one's
growth of power and
self-control predictable.

As a member of the quartz crystal family, citrine can be used in the
same way as clear quartz can.  The only difference is that its golden
yellow color adds Sun energy to the work.  When worn, its vibrant
shades help to lift the spirits if one is dealing with mild
depression or simply feeling down at the time.

This is a very good stone for scrying into matters pertaining to
money and other forms of prosperity.
