Color: orange, reddish-orange, brownish red, salmon, and sienna to
rust.

Carnelian is very sensitive especially to oils and acid.

Carnelian is the most popular of the agates, a red form of
chalcedony.  Most carnelian today comes from Campo de Maia in South
America.  It is also found in Warwick, England, Queensland,
Australia, & Ratnapura, India, which has the finest carnelian.  Some
other sources are Czech Republic, Iceland, & Romania.

Energy: Projective.
Planet: Sun.
Element: Fire.
Powers: Protection, peace, eloquence, healing, courage, and sexual
energy.

The name carnelian comes from the Latin word meaning,
"flesh" (the
color).

Carnelian grounds and anchors into present surroundings.  Removes
fear of death, bringing acceptance of cycle of life.  Improves
analytic abilities and clarifies perception; motivates success in
business; aid positive life choices; dispels apathy.

It also clears extraneous thoughts in medication, heals etheric body,
protects against rage and resentment.  Carnelian has the capacity to
cleanse other stones.

Carnelian influences female reproductive organs, increasing
fertility.  It heals lower back problems, rheumatism, arthritis, &
depression.

Carnelian was worn to prevent skin diseases, insanity, nosebleeds and
all blood diseases, and it induces general health.  It strengthens
and energizes the blood and all organs connected with the blood. 
Also helps heal damaged tissue.  Carnelian has long been used to stop
blood flow.  Place it on the back of the neck to stop a nosebleed. 
It is also useful in easing menstrual cramps and lower back trouble. 
This stone is also a traditional healing treatment for shrinking
tumors.  Carnelian is good for dramatic pursuits; activates lower
chakras.

Ancient warriors wore carnelian around their neck for courage and for
physical power to conquer their enemies.

Egyptians wore it on the hand to still anger, envy, jealousy, envy &
hatred.  It is still used to promote peace and harmony and to dispel
depression.  The stone is worn by the shy to bolster their courage. 
It is a wonderful stone to wear or carry for public speaking, one of
the most common fears in today's society.  Carnelian strengthens the
voice, provides self-confidence and confers eloquence on the speaker.

Carnelian is also used to counteract doubt and negative thoughts, and
can be used in spells to counteract these problems.  It also confers
patience.

Carnelian is carried to guard against others who try to read your
thoughts.

In Renaissance magic, the carnelian was engraved with a sword, or an
image of a warrior.  Then, this magic amulet was placed in the home
to guard it from lightening and storms, and carried as a protector
against enchantments.

Carnelian strengthens astral vision and is worn to bed to halt
nightmares.  Protects against ill wishing and curses; drives away
evil.  Keeps dark influences from influence your mind.
